SONATA 2.0L IDLE VIBRATION
The following procedures may be performed in order to improve an idle vibration condition:
1. Check that the base idle is set within specification (750 - 30 RPM).
2. Check that the power steering idle-up is not activated at idle with the steering wheel in a neutral position (wheels straight ahead).
3. Check the A/C system pressure to ensure that the system is not overcharged.
4. Check the front roll stopper insulator mounting. The insulator may become distorted, reducing its ability to absorb vibration. To correct this distortion, loosen the front roll stopper mounting bolt. Run the engine at idle for 2-3 minutes. Re-tighten the bolt to the specified torque (40-50 N-m, 400-500 kg.cm, 29-36 lb.ft.).
5. Check the front roll stopper mounting bracket angle. Vibration may occur if the angle of the front roll stopper mounting bracket is incorrect. Check gap difference between the left hand and the right hand sides of the insulator and bracket. If there is a gap difference of more than 3 mm, remove the bracket and grind the front stopper mounting bracket so that it fits perpendicular to its mount and creates an equal gap between the LH and RH sides of the insulator and bracket. Apply a paint primer to the ground surface of the bracket to avoid rusting. Re-install the front roll stopper mounting bracket and tighten to the specified torque (40-50 N-m, 400-500 kg.cm, 29-36 lb.ft.). See the illustration.
6. Sonata models equipped with Manual Transaxles may experience an excessive idle vibration if the front roll stopper damper insulator is too stiff to properly insulate the engine vibration. By giving the damper insulator some clearance (2 mm gap) from the main insulator, idle vibration may be reduced. Disassemble the front roll stopper and remove the damper insulator. Grind 2 mm off the damper insulator and re-install into the front roll stopper mounting bracket.
7. Sonata models equipped with Manual Transaxles may experience a vibration from the A/C compressor and fan that may be felt through the steering wheel, installation of a steering wheel damper (P/N 56260-33100) is recommended.
