DOHC TIMING BELT INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Inspection of the timing belt is now included as part of the 7500 mile service interval. This bulletin describes the procedure for inspecting the condition of the timing belt.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1. Remove the three bolts holding the timing belt front upper cover and remove cover (see Figure 1)

2. Remove the rubber plug in the left front wheel well so that a 1/2 " rachet with extension can be attached to crankshaft sprocket bolt to rotate the engine.

3. Make a chalk mark on the timing belt to mark your beginning point.

4. Inspect the area of the belt between the camshaft sprockets by twisting the front edge of the belt to look for cracks where the teeth are attached to the belt, missing teeth or abnormal wear. (see Attachment 1)

5. Rotate the engine clockwise using the ratchet on the crankshaft sprocket until the entire belt has been inspected.

6. If any teeth are cracked or missing, the timing belt must be replaced.

7. Reinstall timing belt front upper cover and bolts.
