The service part crankshaft for the 2.4 liter Sonata engine is supplied without the oil gallery steel ball plugs installed. The steel ball oil gallery plugs (shipped with the crankshaft) must be installed before the crankshaft can be used. The following procedure should be used to install the four steel ball oil gallery plugs into the crankshaft.



1) The steel ball oil gallery plugs are installed in four locations.



2) Before installing the oil gallery plugs protect the crankshaft journals with used bearing shells.



3) Place the steel balls into the gallery opening and gently tap them into place.



4) Using a blunt faced punch, peen the gallery openings to secure the steel ball plugs.
