The 2.4L Sonata is equipped with the KM175-6 automatic transmission, featuring a dual range mode switch, beginning with the following production dates and serial numbers:
Ulsan built Sonatas
Production date: January 22, 1990 V.I.N.: KMHBFXXXXKU161161
Bromont built Sonatas
Production date: April 17, 1990 V.I.N.: 2HMBFXXXXKB022074
Changes related to the above application are as follows:
- Transaxle Control Unit (T.C.U.) circuitry changed
- Power/Normal Switch Assy added on console
- Engine Wiring Assy, Main Wiring Assy, and Engine Extension Wiring Assy changed
- Transaxle Oil Level Gage (dipstick) and Oil Filler Tube routing changed
- T.C.U. mounting brackets changed
- A/T Cable Assy mounting method changed
SERVICE PROCEDURES
For detailed service procedures and electrical diagrams for the KMl 75-6 transmission, refer to the 1990 Sonata Shop Manual. For 1990 model year vehicles with the earlier KM175-2 transmission (which does not have the dual range mode switch), refer to the 1989 Sonata Shop Manual.
MULTI-USE TESTER - VEHICLE MODEL SELECTION
When using the M.U.T. (with the HMC-2 ROM pack) to diagnose transmission problems, choose the Vehicle Model Selection as indicated below.
For the KM175-2 transmission in a 1989 or 1990 MY Sonata choose the following Vehicle Model Selection as required:
# 7: Sonata - 89 MODEL - FED - 2.4U MPI or # 8: Sonata - 89 MODEL - CAL - 2.4U MPI
For the KM175-6 transmission select either:
# 15: Sonata - 90 MODEL - FED - 2.4U MPI or # 17: Sonata - 90 MODEL - CAL - 2.4U MPI
NOTE: There is an error in the multi-use tester user's manual (publication No. 890510) page 39. Selection 17 should read "2.4U MPI" instead of "3.0U MPI".
