Group: CAMPAIGN

Number: 10-01-048

Date: DECEMBER 2010

Model: SANTA FE (CM)

Subject
INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT OF REAR BRAKE
CALIPERS (CAMPAIGN 098)

IMPORTANT:
DEALERS MUST PERFORM THIS CAMPAIGN ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES PRIOR TO CUSTOMER RETAIL DELIVERY AND WHENEVER AN AFFECTED VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP FOR ANY MAINTENANCE OR REPAIR.

IMPORTANT:
WHEN A VEHICLE ARRIVES AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, ACCESS HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA'S "WARRANTY VEHICLE INFORMATION" SCREEN VIA WEBDCS TO IDENTIFY OPEN CAMPAIGNS.

DESCRIPTION:

This bulletin provides information on 2011 Santa Fe (CM) vehicles manufactured between September 28th and November 25, 2010. Improperly machined rear brake calipers may cause fluid leakage past the brake caliper piston seal resulting in low brake fluid level warning lamp illumination. To identify the affected vehicles the lot number marked on the caliper housing must be inspected before attempting any repair.

VEHICLES AFFECTED - VERIFY THAT THE VEHICLE IS IDENTIFIED AS HAVING AN OPEN CAMPAIGN VIA WEBDCS:

Model: 2011 MY Santa Fe (CM).

Applicable vehicle production date range: September 28, 2010 to November 25, 2010

NOTE:
To verify the vehicle is affected, inspect the Lot # ID of each of the vehicle's rear brake calipers and compare them to the Lot # Identification Table on Lot ID's before replacing the rear brake calipers.

6. Bleed the brake system according the service manual:

CAUTION:
Do not reuse drained fluid.

CAUTION:
Always use genuine DOT 3 brake fluid. Using a non-genuine DOT 3 brake fluid can cause corrosion and decrease the life of the system.

CAUTION:
Make sure no dirt or other foreign matter is allowed to contaminate the brake fluid.

CAUTION:
Do not spill brake fluid on the vehicle, it may damage the paint; if brake fluid does contact the paint, wash it off immediately with water.

CAUTION:
The reservoir on the master cylinder must be at the MAX (upper) mark at the start of the bleeding procedure and checked after bleeding each brake caliper. Add fluid as required.

a. Make sure the brake fluid in the reservoir is at the MAX (upper) level line.

b. Have someone slowly pump the brake pedal several times, and then apply pressure.

c. Loosen the right-rear brake bleed screw (A) to allow air to escape from the system. Then tighten the bleed screw securely.

d. Repeat the procedure for the wheel in the sequence shown below until air bubbles no longer appear in the fluid.

e. Refill the master cylinder reservoir to MAX (upper) level line.
