Carrier Bearing Replacement

Carrier Bearing Replacement

Special Tool Required
Installer, 46 mm I.D. 07PAF-0030100

NOTE:
^ The bearing outer race and tapered roller bearing should be replaced as a set.
^ Inspect and adjust the tapered roller bearing preload whenever the tapered roller bearing is replaced.
^ After you do this procedure, adjust the differential carrier bearing preload while reassembling the transmission.

1. Check the carrier bearings for wear and rough rotation. If they rotate smoothly and their rollers show no signs of wear, the bearings are OK.
2. Remove the carrier bearings (A) with a commercially available bearing puller (B) and bearing separator (C).

3. Install the new bearings with the 46 mm I.D. installer and a press. Press on each bearing until it bottoms out. There should be no clearance between the bearings and the carrier.
