Parking Brake Cable: Service and Repair
Parking Brake Cable ReplacementParking Brake Cable:
NOTE: The parking brake cable must not be bent or distorted. This will lead to stiff operation and premature cable failure. Refer to the Exploded View as needed during this procedure.
With Rear Disc Brake
1. Release the parking brake lever fully.
2. Remove the clip (A) from the rear brake caliper.
3. Remove the parking brake cable from the rear brake caliper.
4. Reinstall the parking brake cable in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
^ Before installing the brake disc, clean the mating surface of the rear hub and the inside of the brake disc.
^ Before installing the wheel, clean the mating surfaces on the brake disc and inside of the wheel.
^ Adjust the parking brake. Apply the parking brake firmly 10 times then adjust it again.
With Rear Drum Brake
1. Remove the brake drum and shoes, and disconnect the parking brake cable from the brake shoe.
2. Remove the flange bolts (A) and parking brake cable (B) from the backing plate (C).
3. Reinstall the parking brake cable in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
^ Before installing the brake drum, clean the mating surface of the rear hub and the inside of the brake drum.
^ Before installing the wheel, clean the mating surfaces on the brake drum and inside of the wheel.
^ Adjust the parking brake. Apply the parking brake firmly 10 times then adjust it again.
