Front Suspension Squeak
SYMPTOM
A squeak comes from the front end when driving on a rough road or turning into a driveway.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The bump stop alternately sticks to, then slips on, the shaft of the front damper.
DIAGNOSIS
Try to duplicate and localize the noise by turning into a driveway at a slow speed. Do this several times, and make both left- and right-hand turns. You may be able to duplicate the noise by pushing down on the front fender. Take care that you do not dent the sheet metal.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the bump stop with the new part listed under PARTS INFORMATION.
1. Remove the front wheel.
2. Disconnect the brake line from the damper assembly. Remove the flange bolts, then remove the damper fork.
3. Remove the damper assembly from the car.
4. Using a spring compressor, disassemble the damper assembly.
5. Install the new bump stop. Reassemble the damper assembly.
6. Reinstall the damper assembly on the car.
7. Reinstall the damper fork, reconnect the brake line to the damper assembly, and reinstall the front wheel.
