Buzzing From the Seat Belt Shoulder Anchor
(Supersedes 94-039, dated November 21, 1994)

SYMPTOM

A buzzing noise coming from the upper part of the B-pillar when driving on rough roads.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The plastic cover on the seat belt shoulder anchor is contacting the seat belt track.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Cushion the seat belt track with wool felt (see REQUIRED MATERIALS).

B-Pillar Disassemble:

1. Pull back the front and rear door trim along the B-pillar.





2. Remove the anchor cover and the anchor bolt.

3. Loosen the top of the B-pillar lower trim panel.

B-Pillar Disassemble:

4. Remove the B-pillar upper trim panel.

Shoulder Belt Anchor:

5. Remove the shoulder belt anchor assembly from the B-pillar.





6. Take apart the shoulder belt anchor assembly by pinching the adjustment buttons and sliding the anchor out of the tracks.

Adjustable Shoulder Belt Anchor:

7. Cut four 7 x 75 mm strips of wool felt. Apply the strips to the track cover where it contacts the track. Apply grease to the sliding surfaces.

8. Reassemble the shoulder belt anchor assembly and reinstall it on the B-pillar. Torque the mounting bolts to 22 N-m (2.2 kg-m, 16 lb.ft.).

9. Reinstall the upper trim and the anchor bolt. Torque the bolt to 32 N-m (3.2 kg-m, 24 lb.ft.).

10. Reinstall the remaining parts.
