Fuel Gauge Does Not Read Full

SYMPTOM

The fuel gauge does not go to the "F" mark when the tank is filled.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The sending unit in the fuel tank has excessive electrical resistance.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Measure the resistance of the sending unit. If it is incorrect, replace it with the new unit listed under PARTS INFORMATION.

1. Wagon only: Remove the rear seat cushion and backs, the spare tire cover, and the mid-floor cover.

2. Remove the sending unit access cover.




3. Make sure the ignition is off. Then disconnect the 3-P connector from the sending unit.




4. Remove the five mounting nuts. Remove the sending unit from the fuel tank.




5. Measure the resistance between terminals A and B with the float at the Empty, 1/2, and Full positions.

6. If any resistance reading is not within specifications, replace the sending unit.

7. Reinstall all removed parts.
