Important Recall: Accord Supplemental Restraint System

Dear Accord Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the provisions of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

What is the reason for this notice?

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has determined that some Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Electronic Control Units may cause airbag deployment when it is not necessary to protect front seat occupants.

When it detects a sufficient impact, the SRS control unit sends a signal to the airbags, causing them to deploy. In some instances, the SRS Control Unit has deployed the airbags as a result of an impact to the undercarriage or underbody of the vehicle; such as the impact that might occur if the car traveled over a curb or through a pothole.

This type of unexpected airbag deployment may result in abrasions to the hands, arms, or face of a properly positioned front seat occupant, or potentially more serious injury to an out-of-position occupant.

To prevent this problem from occurring, Honda will provide owners of certain 1995 Accords with a free replacement SRS Control Unit for the airbag system.

What should you do?

Call any authorized Honda automobile dealer and make an appointment to have your car repaired. They will install a new SRS Control Unit free of charge. The parts are now available. The repair takes about one hour; however, the dealer may need to keep your car longer than that because of the workload.

In the meantime, we remind you to always wear your seat belt properly, move the seat as far back as practical, and sit well back in the seat. This will help minimize the possibility of injury in the unlikely event that an unexpected deployment occurs.
