Corrective Action

Replace the SRS control unit with the unit listed under PARTS INFORMATION.

1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the audio system. Write down the customer's radio station presets.

2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

3. Remove the access panel from the steering column, and disconnect the driver's airbag. Install the short connector on the airbag connector.

4. Open the glove box. Remove the stops.

5. Disconnect the glove box damper (one screw).

6. Disconnect the passenger's airbag connector. Install the short connector on the airbag connector.

7. Remove the clips holding the carpet to the bottom of the console. Cut the carpet and pull it away from the console.

8. Disconnect the 18P connector from the SRS control unit. Use a TORX T30 bit to remove the four control unit mounting bolts. Remove the control unit.

9. Examine the part number on the label of the just-removed SRS control unit.

^ If the part number is 77960-SV4-A92, reinstall the just-removed SRS control unit. (This vehicle's original control unit was replaced during a previous service.)

^ If the part number is 77960-SV4-A91, install a new SRS control unit (see PARTS INFORMATION).

10. Install the SRS control unit. If you are installing a new control unit, use the bolts that came with it. Install the 18P connector; make sure it clicks into place.

11. Cut slits in the carpet next to the cut you made in step 7. Use a wire tie to fasten the carpet back together.

12. Remove the short connector from the passenger's airbag connector. Reconnect the airbag to the main harness.

13. Reinstall the glove box damper and stops.

14. Remove the short connector from the driver's airbag connector. Reconnect the driver's airbag to the cable reel harness. Install the access panel.

15. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

16. Test the SRS by turning the ignition switch to ON (II) and watching the SRS indicator. It should come on for about six seconds, and then go off.

17. Enter the anti-theft code in the audio system. Enter the customer's radio stations presets.

18. Set the clock.

19. Center-punch a completion mark above the fourth character (C) of the engine compartment VIN.
