CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the trunk latch with the part listed under PARTS INFORMATION; then, adjust the trunk latch striker.
1. Open the trunk lid, and disconnect the latch switch 2-P connector.
2. Remove the three 6 mm mounting bolts; then, pull down on the trunk latch assembly, and disconnect the cylinder rod. Remove the latch from the trunk lid.
3. [NEW] Install a new trunk latch, and tighten the three 6 mm mounting bolts to 9.8 N-m (1.0 kg-m, 7.2 lb-ft).
4. Remove the right and left taillight access covers from inside the trunk area; then, remove the two trim clips and the rear trim panel to expose the striker assembly.
5. Check the alignment of the striker assembly. The top edge of the striker plate should be even with the right and left alignment marks on the body, and the striker should be centered on the latch as you close the trunk lid.
6. If the striker is misaligned, loosen the two 6 mm mounting bolts. Adjust the striker so its top edge is touching the lower right and left alignment marks on the body; then, move it horizontally as necessary to center on the latch. Tighten the bolts to 9.8 N-m (1.0 kg-m, 7.2 lb.ft.).
7. After the adjustments, check the trunk lid alignment with the rear fenders. The trunk lid should be no more than 1.0 mm above the rear fenders.
8. Remove the six retaining clips from the rear trim panel, and install them into the body; then, install the rear trim panel in the trunk.
9. Install the two trim clips into the rear panel; then, install the right and left taillight access panels.
