Rear
1. Block the front wheels, support the rear of the car on safety stands, then remove the rear wheels.
2. Remove the caliper shield.
Remove Caliper Bolts:
3. Remove the two caliper bolts.
4. Remove the pad shims and pad retainers.
Brake Pad Removal:
5. Remove the pads.
Measuring Pad Thickness:
6. Measure the thickness of each brake pad lining using a vernier caliper.
NOTE: Measurement does not include pad backing thickness.
7. If the lining thickness is less than service limit, replace the brake pads as a set.
8. Inspect the disc surface for grooves, cracks, and rust. Clean the disc thoroughly and remove all rust.
Measuring Rotor Run-Out:
9. Mount a dial indicator as shown and measure the runout at 10 mm (0.4 in in from the outer edge of of the disc.
CAUTION: Use wheel nuts and 3 mm thick flat washers to hold the disc securely.
Brake Disc Run-out Limit: 0.15 mm (0.006 in)
10. Resurface or replace the brake disc if the runout is beyond the service limit.
Measuring Rotor Thickness:
11. Using a micrometer, measure the rear brake disc thickness at eight points, approximately 45° apart and 10 mm (0.4 in) in from the outer edge of the disc.
Brake Disc Thickness:
^ Standard: 10 mm (0.4 in)
^ Service Limit: 8 mm (0.3 in)
^ Brake Disc Parallelism: 0.015 mm (0.0006 in) max.
NOTE: Parallelism is the maximum allowable difference between the thickness measurements.
12. Resurface or replace the brake disc if beyond the limits.
NOTE: A new disc should be resurfaced if its run- out is greater than 0.1 5 mm (0.006 in). If the disc does need resurfacing, continue with step 13. If not, continue with step 17.
Caliper Bracket Bolt Removal:
13. Remove the two caliper bracket bolts and caliper bracket.
Removing Rotor Mounting Screws:
14. Remove the two 6 mm screws and brake disc.
NOTE: If the brake disc is difficult to remove, install 8 mm bolts into the threaded holes and tighten them.
15. Install the new or resurfaced brake disc.
16. Clean the caliper bracket and retainers, then install the caliper bracket with two bolts and retainers.
Brake Pad Installation:
17. Install the new brake pads and pad shims onto the caliper bracket.
Rotating Caliper Piston Clockwise:
18. Rotate the caliper piston clockwise into place in the cylinder, then align the cut-out in the piston with tab on the inner pad. Install the pad with the wear indicator on the inside.
CAUTION: Lubricate the boot with silicone grease to avoid twisting the piston boot. If the piston boot is twisted, back it out so it sits properly.
Caliper Body Installation:
19. Install the caliper body and caliper shield.
