Air Bag: Service and Repair

Store a removed airbag assembly with the pad surface up. If the air bag is stored face down, accidental deployment could propel the unit with enough force to cause serious injury.

Driver Side Airbag
1. Disconnect battery negative and positive terminals.
2. Remove maintenance lid below the airbag, then remove short connector.
3. Disconnect connector between airbag and cable reel.

4. Connect short connector to airbag side of airbag(s) connector, Figs. 1 and 2.
5. Remove two attaching bolts, then airbag assembly.
6. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Ensure SRS wiring is not pinched during reassembly.
b. Ensure battery cables are disconnected.
c. Torque new airbag attaching bolts to 7 Ft. Lbs.
d. Turn ignition switch on and observe instrument panel SRS indicator light. It should come on for approximately six seconds, then turn off.

Passenger Side Airbag

1. Open glove box, then remove access panel from inside glove box.
2. Disconnect connector between passenger airbag and SRS main harness, then install short connector on airbag side of connector Fig. 2.
3. Remove tweeter cover from dashboard, then the visor black face panel.
4. Remove glove box, the the airbag mounting screws.
5. Remove airbag.
6. Reverse procedure to install. Press airbag assembly downwards and turn adjusting nuts until they touch the lower part of airbag assembly.
