Accord EX Audio System Product Update
Service Advisor and Service Manager Information

Some owners of 1990-91 Accord EX models will be sent a letter informing them to contact their Honda dealer for an appointment to have their AM/FM/Cassette unit replaced. Refer to the VIN ranges in this service bulletin. Some of these owners will have had a previous replacement. Because demand for remanufactured radios sometimes exceeded supply, EX 1992-93 style Accord unit or a Honda 3000 accessory unit may have been substituted for the original.

This product update applies only to the original equipment 1990-91 Accord EX unit. When a customer calls for an appointment to have the unit replaced, ask if it has been replaced previously. If so, try to determine what style of AM/FM/Cassette unit is in the car.

The faceplate of the 1990-91 unit looks like this:

Note that it has eight preset buttons and a paddle for the volume control. If the customer has this style of unit, he or she should bring the car in and have it replaced.

If the customer has any of the AM/FM Cassette units shown, this product update does not apply and there is no need to bring the car to the dealership.

The faceplate of the 1992-93 unit looks like this:

Note that it has six preset buttons, FM1/FM2 band selection, and a knob for the volume control.

The faceplate of the Honda 3000 accessory units look like this:

Note that they have six preset buttons and a knob for the volume control.
