Window Motor Runs But the Window Does Not Move
SYMPTOM The front window motor runs, but the window does not move up or down.
PROBABLE CAUSE Material on the damper unit inside the motor assembly separates, making the window inoperative.
VEHICLES AFFECTED Ohio-produced 1991 and 1992 Accord EX and LX:
2-door - through VIN 1HGCB7 . . . NA017643
4-door (Marysville) through VIN 1HGCB7 ... NA076067
4-door (East Liberty) through VIN 1HGCB7 ... NL007826
5-door - through VIN 1HGCB9 ... NA004525
CORRECTIVE ACTION Replace the damper unit with the parts listed in PARTS INFORMATION.
1. Remove the window regulator and motor assembly. Refer to Section 20 of the service manual.
2. To help during reassembly, mark the motor location by making a line across the sector gear and regulator.
3. Remove the motor from the regulator. Place the motor in a bench vise as shown.
4. Use a flat tip screwdriver to bend the tabs up on each side of the damper cover, then remove the cover and the O-ring.
5. Remove and discard the snap ring and the damper unit from the pinion shaft. Remove the pinion shaft from the case, being careful not to damage the O-ring and flat washer.
6. Remove the motor from the vise, and turn it over to remove the driven gear (it should just fall out of the case). Wipe away any residue or contaminants from all parts and inside the case.
7. Lubricate the worm gear, driven gear, pinion shaft and O-ring with white lithium grease (P/N 08732-0005). Reinstall the pinion shaft into the case (including the washer and O-ring), followed by the driven gear.
8. Install the new damper unit, making sure it engages with the driven gear, then install the new snap ring included in the kit.
9. Apply a coat of Dow Corning 111 lubricant to the damper cover O-ring, then install the O-ring and damper cover on the case.
10. Place the motor in the bench vise to hold the damper cover firmly in place, then secure the cover to the case as follows:
11. Reassemble the motor to the regulator by realigning the marks made in Step 2. Install the regulator in the reverse order of removal.
NOTE:
^ To avoid water leaks and/or wind noise, be sure to securely reattach the plastic door cover with no gaps or wrinkles.
^ Check the window for proper operation before installing the inner door panel.
