Odometer/Trip Meter Stops Registering
SYMPTOM
The odometer sticks in one position, usually at low mileage.
VEHICLES AFFECTED
All 1991 Accords with Nippon Seiki (NS) gauge assemblies.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the odometer/trip meter assembly with the part listed under PARTS INFORMATION.
1. Remove the front console as described on page 20-63 of the 1991 Accord Service Manual (second edition).
2. Remove the dash switches and the radio (page 20-66).
3. Remove the gauge assembly (page 23-114).
[NOTICE]
To avoid contaminating the instruments, place the odometer/trip meter in a clean work area.
4. Remove the screws that secure the coolant temperature/fuel gauge, speedometer and tachometer (page 23-113).
5. On the back of the assembly, disconnect the instrument light from the socket on the main circuit board.
6. Remove the trip knob, then release the three mounting tabs across the top of the visor. Place the assembly face up, and release the remaining three mounting tabs across the lower edge of the visor. Carefully remove the visor.
7. Remove the face panel from the housing. Remove the tachometer, speedometer, and coolant temperature/fuel gauge from the housing.
8. Remove the odometer/trip meter from the main circuit board.
9. Remove the screw securing the prism, and carefully remove the prism from the odometer/trip meter.
10. Install the prism on the new odometer/trip meter.
11. Reassemble the instrument gauge assembly, and install it in the dash.
12. Raise the vehicle off the ground.
13. Start the engine, and run the vehicle in gear to check the odometer/trip meter operation.
14. Replace the instrument panel, dash switches, radio, and front console.
