Fuel Filler Door Does Not Open Properly
(Supersedes 90-026 dated June 21, 1991)


PROBLEM
The fuel lid will not open properly, sometimes this is accompanied by a rattling noise from the fuel lid area.


PROBABLE CAUSE
The fuel lid opener spring is weak or it has come off completely.


CORRECTIVE ACTION
Add a 1 mm dimple to a new or existing opener spring.

NOTE:
During P.D.I. add a dimple to the opener spring and reinstall.





1. Identify the opener spring type.

^ If the opener spring is gone or if it looks like this.


Replace the fuel lid opener spring with the new one listed under PARTS INFORMATION. Before installing the new opener spring, add a 1 mm dimple as shown in step 2.





^ If it looks like this and does not have a dimple, remove it with a small screwdriver.





2. Dimple the opener spring about 1 mm deep with pliers, as shown in the illustration, and reinstall.


3. Open and close the fuel lid to check for proper operation and flush fit.
