Positive Crankcase Ventilation: Testing and Inspection
1. Check the crankcase ventilation hoses and connections for leaks, cracks, or clogging, Fig. 66.
2. Start the engine and let it idle.
3. Lightly pinch the breather hose between the PCV valve and intake manifold, Fig. 67. There should be a clicking sound from the PCV valve. If there is no sound, replace the valve and re-test.
4. Inspect the condition of the blow-by filter in the air cleaner, Fig. 68.
5. Replace the filter if:
a. The filter is stuck fast and oil is dripping through.
b. The filter is covered with dust and dirt to the point that it appears clogged.
