Auxiliary Air Valve (Idle Speed): Testing and Inspection

9 volts or more should be present between the black (+) terminal and yellow ( - ) terminal of the control box wire harness when valve is activated.
1. Open control box cover, then disconnect control box wire harness.
2. Disconnect vacuum hose between the fast idle control solenoid valve and No. 10 vacuum hose.
3. Apply vacuum to hose using a suitable hand vacuum pump. Valve should hold vacuum.
4. Connect battery positive terminal to black terminal of control box coupler and battery negative terminal to the yellow terminal.
5. Apply vacuum to hose using a suitable hand vacuum pump. Valve should not hold vacuum.
