SYMPTOM The front brakes make a grinding or moaning sound when brakes are applied at low speeds.

CORRECTIVE ACTION To minimize noise install a Brake Noise Correction Pad Set.

* WARNING Brake lining contains asbestos, which can cause cancer. Do not use an air hose to blow off brake assemblies; use only an OSHAapproved vacuum cleaner, and wear an OSHAapproved filter mask or respirator.

Installation Of Brake Noise Pad Set:

1. Separate the brake hose mount from the knuckle by removing the mounting bolts, then remove caliper pin bolt and pivot caliper up out of the way.
2. If brake judder exists, resurface both discs with the Honda Brake Disc Grinder, the Snap-on "Front Disc Brake Lathe," or the Kwik-Way "Kwik-Lathe."

NOTE: To effectively eliminate judder, it is essential to resurface the discs until thickness variation is within specification. When using the Honda Brake Disc Grinder, grind for 17 minutes rough cut and 3 minutes final cut. Remeasure the discs for minimum thickness and variation.

3. Apply Molykote M77 to both sides of the two inner pad shims and to the pad/caliper contact surfaces. Fit the stainless steel inner shim to the pad with the narrow side towards the wear indicator.

4.. Apply Molykote M77 to both sides of the outer pad shim and to the pad/caliper contact surfaces.
5. Install the brake pads and shims, then install caliper pin bolt and tighten to 45 N-m (33 ft.lbs.).

6. Install wheels and torque lug nuts to 118 N-m (80 ft.lbs.).

CAUTION: Excessive lug nut torque may cause disc runout.

7. Road test. Break-in the new pads with 20 light applications. Do not overheat the brakes when performing break-in.
