An improved oil pan gasket H/C 1876127, is available for 1984 Civic 1.3 and 1.5 engines. Do not use the early type gasket (H/C 1597889). If you have any early gaskets in stock, return them for credit; refer to Parts News Bulletin A84090401.

When installing a 1984 Civic oil pan, make sure you:

1. Clean the sealing surfaces on the block and pan with Honda Contact/Brake Cleaner (H/C 1663004) or equivalent. All surfaces must be clean and dry to keep the gasket from slipping and deforming as you tighten the nuts and bolts.

2. Apply a small amount of Honda Silicone Liquid Gasket (H/C 1724442) to the 4 areas shown; do not use any kind of sealer anywhere else on the gasket.
3. Torque the pan nuts and bolts to 84 lb. in., using a lb. in. torque wrench. Start at the middle of the pan and work your way to the ends in a criss-cross pattern.

Write-in the new torque spec on pages 7-2 and 8-2 of your '84 Civic Service Manual.
