Left Drive Shaft Recall(Supersedes Bulletin 83-038 dated Jan. 84)


PROBLEM

Due to the previously used manufacturing process, the left drive shaft could develop a crack at the boot locator groove. During a high stress situation, such as rapid acceleration or deceleration, the drive shaft could break without warning causing a sudden loss of power, and the car could crash.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

1... Check to see if the left drive shaft has already been replaced; the updated part will have a white paint mark around the shaft.

2. If the shaft has already been replaced, go on to step 3; if not, replace it with the updated part. See page 18-2 of the '84 Civic Service Manual for the replacement procedure.

Recall Completion Mark:

3. Center punch a Recall Completion Mark on the firewall above the first letter of the VIN.
