Torque Converter Vibration
PROBLEM (Supersedes Bulletin 84-064 dated Nov. 12, '84)
Vibration or rumble from the transmission while driving in 4th gear between 32 and 42 mph with the torque converter lockup clutch engaged.
PROBABLE CAUSE
Worn thrust washer in the torque converter stator.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the torque converter with the improved one listed below.
1. Drain and remove the transmission.
2. Replace the torque converter. The new converter must be P/N 26000-PC9-305; do not use any other part number.
3. Reinstall the transmission.
4. Flush the transmission with ATF:
^ Add 3 quarts of Dexron II ATF (ARCO, Union 76, or Kendall brand).
^ Road test the car for at least 5 miles. Select all gear positions, including reverse.
^ Drain the transmission, then add the correct amount of ATF (ARCO, Union 76, or Kendall).
