Brake Disc Grinder Modification
The brake disc on the 1984 Accord has been increased in diameter, so you'll need to modify your Honda Brake Disc Grinder to accommodate it.

About 2 mm of material must be removed from the guide bar bosses on the grinder bracket.

You may either modify your grinder yourself (see Modification Procedure below) or you may have us modify it for you (see Grinder Modification Service on the back of this page).

CAUTION: You must follow the modification instructions carefully to avoid damaging the brake disc grinder. American Honda will not accept responsibility for damage caused by improper modification of the grinder.

MODIFICATION PROCEDURE:

1. Thoroughly clean the entire grinder.

CAUTION: Make sure the guide bars and the threads on the feed screw are clean; if grinding residue is drawn into the feed nut assembly, it may cause damage.

2. Using soft jaws or shop towels, clamp the grinder in a vise as shown.

3. Carefully cut out the template that was Supplied with this bulletin. Wrap it around the guide bar boss on the grinder bracket. The hole in the template must be directly over the adjusting screw on the grinder bracket.

4. On the other side of the boss (opposite the adjusting screw) is the cut-out that must be marked for clearance. Use a felt tip pen to darken the whole area within the cut-out.
5. Remove the template from the boss, then reposition the grinder on the vise so the other side of the bracket is accessible. Repeat steps 3 and 4 on the other bracket boss.

6. Before grinding at the marked locations, cover the rest of the grinder with clean shop towels and tape or wire them in place.

7. Use a die grinder with a carbide tip (Snap-On #VWB6, or equivalent) to grind the marked areas flat.

CAUTION
^ Wear eye protection and gloves.
^ Grind only a little at a time; if the boss gets too hot, it may warp the bracket.

8. After you've ground the marked area flat, check the thickness of the boss to make sure that you've removed enough material:

Measure the outside diameter of the boss at the ground area and then across an unground area. There should be a 2 mm difference in diameter. Remove additional material as necessary.
9 Remove the grinder from the vise and dust
off the grinding residue from the shop towels and any exposed parts of the bracket. Then, remove the towels and thoroughly clean the grinder.
10. Check the slide resistance of the grinder and adjust as necessary. Also check the alignment of the bracket face. Both of these checks are fully explained on page 3 of the Brake Disc Grinder Instruction Manual.
