Vehicles Normally Driven in Areas of Heavy Salt Use

Replace the fuel filler pipe with the appropriate new part listed under PARTS INFORMATION. Install an adapter plate in the mounting cup if any of the attachment points for the filler pipe or fuel filler door have rusted away.

1. Disconnect all hoses; remove the fuel filler pipe and liquid-vapor separator as an assembly.

2. Closely examine the filler pipe stud attachment points in the fender to determine the extent of rust damage.
^ If any attachment point has rusted away, or is weakened by rust, go to ADAPTER PLATE INSTALLATION.

^ If all attachment points are in good condition, continue with this procedure.

3. Remove the liquid-vapor separator from the fuel filler pipe.

4. Coat the shaded areas of the liquid-vapor separator with 3M Rust Fighter-I (P/N 08892).

NOTE:
Replace the liquid-vapor separator if it is severely corroded or perforated.

5. Install the liquid-vapor separator on the new fuel filler pipe.

6. Go to COMPLETION PROCEDURE.
