Instrument Panel Bubbles

Air Bubble Locations:

PROBLEM

Air bubbles trapped in the instrument panel.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

1. Puncture the bubble with a pin. If the bubble is small, one pin hole will do. If the bubble is large, puncture it several times, once in the center and then four or more times between the center and the outside edge of the bubble.

2. Use a hair dryer to blow hot air over the area of the bubble. Move the dryer back and forth to avoid overheating any particular part of the panel.

CAUTION: Do not use a heat gun, it may melt the instrument panel or crack the windshield.

3. As the bubble slowly deflates, press it flat with a rounded instrument, such as a body dolly. Do not allow any sharp edges to touch the hot plastic, this may cause a permanent crease in the instrument panel.

4. If necessary, repeat the procedure until the bubble is flattened.

NOTE: If this procedure is not effective, such as on bubbles located in a corner, the instrument panel may have to be replaced.
