High Oil Consumption PROBLEM

High oil consumption (more than one quart per 1,000 miles).

NOTE: If necessary, you can track the amount of oil consumption by using the oil consumption test form contained in Service Bulletin 82-003, "Oil Consumption Test," dated March 1982.


CORRECTIVE ACTION

1. Replace all pistons with the new type.

2. Replace all piston rings with standard parts.

NOTE:

^ Hone the cylinders only if they have vertical scratches- "polished" or "glazed" cylinders need not be honed.

^ Hone only those cylinders that are scratched.

^ After honing, wash cylinders thoroughly with hot, soapy water.

Improved Pistons: Standard H/C 1725654 P/N 13101-PA6-306

0.25 mm Oversize H/C 1725662 P/N 13102-PA6-306


WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION

Use operation number 111120F, defect code 060, and a total time of 5.6 hours. Add 0.3 hour if the car has air conditioning. Use H/C 1120120 for the failed part.

The normal 24 month/24,000 mile power train warranty applies. This improvement is eligible for goodwill consideration by your District Service Manager. You must request the consideration (and get the DSM's decision) before starting the work.
