Adjustment/Conversion of High and Low Altitude Cars to Reduce Emissions (Supersedes Bulletin 82-031 dated October 1982)

The EPA requires all vehicle manufacturers to make available "to service outlets and the general public," instructions for improving emission control performance on all cars produced since 1968 that are normally driven at high altitudes (over 4000 feet). The EPA also requires manufacturers to include in their service manuals, instructions for converting a low altitude car to the high altitude emissions configuration, and a high altitude car to the low altitude configuration. Each adjusted or converted car must be identified by a label applied to the underside of the hood next to the Emission Control Information label.

Adjustment Instructions and Labels

If you are a high altitude dealer, you should already have update labels and the adjustment instructions for all '73-'80, '81 and '82 models, and '83 Civic and Accord. If one of your customers wants instructions, you can either make him a copy (and give him a label if he's going to make the adjustment himself), or call or write us, and we'll mail you a label and the appropriate instructions. (Adjustment instructions for '83 cars are also in the Fuel Section of each Service Manual). If you are a low altitude dealer you will not automatically get labels and instructions, so let us know if you need them. Call (213) 327-8280, and ask for Service Publications, or write:

Conversion Instructions and Labels

High-to-low altitude, and low-to-high altitude conversion instructions have been included in the Fuel Section of '83 Service Manuals. If you make a conversion, call or write us at the address above, and we'll send you the required conversion label.

IDENTIFICATION

After a car has been adjusted or converted, you must apply an update label to the hood as shown. If you need more labels, just call us and we'll mail them to you.
