Adjusting the Shift Lock Cable

1. Move the shift lever to Park, and make sure both shift lock cable adjustment nuts are backed off from the cable bracket.

2. Push the blue interlock cam cable pin forward with your left index finger.

3. While holding the cable pin forward, push the cable housing backward with your right hand, making sure it's square to the bracket. Then turn the front adjustment nut until it touches the bracket.

4. Release the cable pin, and tighten the rear adjustment nut to the bracket by hand. With both nuts finger tight against the bracket, turn the ignition switch to CLOCK.

5. Check the cable adjustment by looking at the shift gate slot while you press the shift lever button:

- If the lower outer corner of the blue interlock cam is even with the bottom edge of the parking gate tab, the adjustment is OK. Go to step 7.

- If the lower outer corner of the blue interlock cam is above or below the lower edge of the parking gate tab, go to step 6.

6. Readjust the cable:

- If the corner of the cam is below the tab, move the rear adjustment nut one turn away from the bracket, and hand tighten the front nut against the bracket. Repeat step 5.

- If the corner of the cam is above the tab, move the front adjustment nut one turn away from the bracket, and hand tighten the rear nut against the bracket. Repeat step 5.

7. Tighten both adjustment nuts with open end wrenches. Repeat step 5, and read just the nuts it needed.

8. Reinstall the center console in the reverse order of removal (refer to step 1 of DIAGNOSIS).
