Evaporative Emission Canister Operation:

Testing Evaporative Emission Canister Operation:

EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CANISTER VALVE CHECK
With Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister removed, the following checks will determine if the purge valve located on top of the EVAP canister is operating properly.

CAUTION: Do not suck on EVAP canister valve. Fuel vapor inside EVAP canister is harmful.

1. Using a small length of vacuum hose connected to the tank pipe, blow into the EVAP canister. Air should escape the air tube at the bottom of the EVAP canister. Air will also escape the purge pipe as well.
2. Repeat the above test to the purge pipe. Air should not escape any of the other pipes.

INTERPRETING TEST RESULTS
If EVAP canister check valve fails the above tests, the EVAP canister should be replaced.
