Radiator Cap: Testing and Inspection




Radiator Cap Test

Tools Required:
J 24460-01 Cooling System Tester
J 33984-A Radiator Test Adapter

1. Attach a J 24460-1 and a J 33984-A to the radiator cap. Slowly pump the J 24460-01 at a constant rate of one pump every three seconds and check to see if air is coming from the relief valve. If air is not coming from the relief valve. If air is not coming from the relief valve, replace the radiator cap.
2. Pump the J 24460-01 several times and measure the relief valve opening pressure. Standard opening pressure is 74 to 103 kPa (10.7 to 14.9 psi). If the opening pressure is 59 kPa (8.5 psi) or less, replace the radiator cap.
