Brake Proportioning/Combination Valve: Service and Repair
WARNING: To help avoid personal injury due to a retained load on the hydraulic modulator/motor pack assembly, and to prevent setting Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), the Gear Tension Relief function of the Tech 2, or equivalent scan tool, must be performed prior to removal of the hydraulic modulator.REPLACEMENT
1. Remove the hydraulic modulator.
2. Remove two banjo bolts and proportioning valve from hydraulic modulator.
3. Remove two transfer tubes with O-rings from proportioning valve or hydraulic modulator.
4. Remove banjo bolt O-rings from proportioning valve and hydraulic modulator.
CAUTION:
^ No repair of the hydraulic modulator should be attempted. Replace as an assembly.
NOTE:
^ Use new transfer tubes when assembling the proportioning valve to the hydraulic modulator.
^ Make sure two new O-rings are properly installed on each transfer tube.
5. Lubricate new transfer tube O-rings with clean brake fluid and install into hydraulic modulator and proportioning valve.
6. Install transfer tubes into the ports in the hydraulic modulator. Push in by hand to seat tubes.
7. Lubricate new banjo bolt O-rings with clean brake fluid and install into hydraulic modulator and proportioning valve.
8. Attach proportioning valve to hydraulic modulator. Hold hydraulic modulator and rock into position on proportioning valve, inserting transfer tubes into proportioning valve ports.
9. Install the banjo bolts securing proportioning valve to hydraulic modulator, then tighten to 24 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).
10. Install the hydraulic modulator.
