Shift Interlock: Description and Operation

CIRCUIT OPERATION
Voltage is applied at all times through the stop horn fuse to the stoplamp switch. Voltage is also applied through the wiper washer Fuse to the shift lock relay through the shift lock diode with the ignition switch in the "ON" and "START" positions. When the brake pedal is pressed, voltage is applied through the closed contacts in the stoplamp switch to the coil in the shift lock relay. The energized relay applies current to the shift lock solenoid, energizing it. The solenoid is grounded through the transmission position switch and G106. The transmission position switch prevents the solenoid from energizing when the manual selector is in any position other than "P."
