Code 53 Chart:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:

On California vehicles, an additional ground is supplied to the ECM. The ECM supplies 12 volts to circuit 450 through a buffer. The ECM looks for this voltage to be "Low." If voltage is "High," Code 53 will set.

TEST DESCRIPTION: The numbers below refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.

1. Verifies that a Code 53 is not intermittent.

2. Test light to B+, probing Terminal "Y4" checks the wire to the engine block for an open in the circuit.
