Code 42 Chart - M/T:

Fifth Gear Switch Circuit Wiring Diagram - M/T Only:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:

The ECM supplies battery voltage to the 5th gear switch. When the switch closes (in 5th gear only) the signal line inside the ECM is pulled low. If the signal line is low all the time, the ECM will store a Code 42.

TEST DESCRIPTION: The numbers below refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.

1. Checking for B+ supplied by ECM.

2. Test the switch for being the cause of the fault.

3. This will determine if the ECM or the circuit (circuit 422) is open.
