SELECTING THE RIGHT SCHEDULE
First you will need to decide which of the two schedules is right for your vehicle. Diesel engine vehicles have different maintenance requirements than gasoline engines. Follow the schedule designated for diesel engines only.

SEVERE SCHEDULE DEFINITION
Follow the SEVERE schedule if any one of the following are true:
^ Most trips are less than 5 to 10 miles (8 to 16 km). This is particularly important when outside temperatures are below freezing (0°C. 32°F.).
^ Most trips include extensive idling (such as frequent driving in stop and go traffic).
^ The vehicle is operated in dusty areas frequently.
^ Trailer towing or using a carrier on top of the vehicle frequently.
^ The vehicle is used for delivery service, police, taxi or other commercial applications.

NORMAL SCHEDULE DEFINITION
Follow the NORMAL schedule only if none of the conditions from the SEVERE schedule apply.

NOTE: Some vehicle manufacturers provide only a single schedule (Normal) for all driving conditions. Some of the components listed in the schedule may have notes describing alternate service intervals for that component depending on driving conditions, see Example.

EXAMPLE:
Many vehicles have an "Engine Oil Life Monitor" lamp which can illuminate anytime between intervals depending on driving conditions. The oil should then be replaced at that time, regardless of mileage, and the "Engine Oil Life Monitor" reset.
