Fuel Filler Hose: Service and Repair

Removal

WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related components. Highly flammable vapors are always present and can ignite. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.

CAUTION: The rubber hose portion of the filler pipe is not serviced separately. Install a new filler pipe assembly as needed.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Remove the fuel filler cap.
3. Insert a suitable fuel drain tube into the fuel tank filler pipe until it reaches the fuel tank inlet spout.
4. Attach the fuel storage tanker to the fuel drain tube and remove any residual fuel in the fuel tank filler pipe.
5. Remove the RH rear wheel.
6. Remove the RH rear splash shield.

7. CAUTION: When removing the fuel tank vent and filler pipe, do not use any sharp edge tools to lever off the pipes. Failure to follow this instruction can result in damage to the filler pipes.

NOTE: Make a note of the position of the retaining clamp and clip to make sure that it is positioned in exactly the same position when installed.

Disconnect the fuel tank vent tubes and filler pipe.

8. CAUTION: Care must be taken to avoid damaging the canister vent solenoid.

Disconnect the canister vent solenoid tube.

9. Remove the fuel filler pipe.
1 Disconnect the fresh air tube at the filler door housing.
2 Remove the 2 bolts.
3 Remove the fuel filler pipe.

Installation

CAUTION: The orientation mark on the fill hose must be aligned with the orientation mark on the fuel tank filler inlet during installation. If the installation of a new hose clamp is necessary, a new stainless steel clamp is required.

NOTE: The fuel filler pipe and vent tube retaining clamp and clips must be installed in the same position as removed.

1. Install the fuel filler pipe.
1 Position the filler pipe.
2 Tighten the 2 bolts to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft).
3 Connect the fresh air tube to the filler door housing.

2. CAUTION: Care must be taken to avoid damaging the canister vent solenoid.

Connect the canister vent solenoid tube.

3. NOTE: Make sure that the retaining clamp is positioned in exactly the same position when installed.

Connect the filler pipe and fuel tank vent tubes.

4. Install the RH rear splash shield.
5. Install the RH rear wheel.
6. Install the fuel filler cap.
7. Carry out an evaporative emission system leak test. Testing and Inspection
