Parking Brake CableRemoval and Installation
All vehicles
1. Remove the floor console.
2. Release the parking brake.
3. Loosen the parking brake cable adjustment nut to the end of the thread.
^ Remove the retaining clip.
^ Loosen the adjustment nut.
4. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
5. CAUTION: Support the exhaust pipe.
NOTE: Install new exhaust tailpipe and muffler assembly nuts.
Remove the exhaust tailpipe and muffler assembly.
1 Remove and discard the nuts.
^ To install, tighten to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
2 Disconnect the hanger isolators.
6. Remove the center exhaust hanger isolator.
7. Remove the exhaust center heat shield.
8. Remove the exhaust rear heat shield from the floor panel.
9. Separate the parking brake cable from the equalizer.
10. NOTE: There are marks and sleeves on the outer cable conduit to indicate the clip locations. Note the position of the clips on the outer cable conduit to aid installation.
Disconnect the parking brake cable from the retaining clips.
11. If equipped, remove the rear air deflectors.
^ Remove the screws.
^ Release the clip.
12. Remove the parking brake cable guide bolt from the floor panel.
13. Remove the parking brake cable from the bracket.
Vehicles with anti-lock brakes
14. Remove the rear wheel speed sensor bolt and position the wheel speed sensor aside.
^ To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).
Vehicles with rear drum brakes
15. Remove the brake drum.
16. Remove the parking brake cable guide bolt and disconnect the parking brake cable guide from the lower control arm.
17. Disconnect the parking brake cable at the cable union.
18. Pull the parking brake cable and guide through the lower control arm.
19. Remove the parking brake cable from the brake backing plate.
^ Pull the actuating lever forward.
^ Remove the cable from the actuating lever.
^ Compress the clip and pull the parking brake cable through the brake backing plate.
Vehicles with rear disc brakes
20. Remove the parking brake cable from the rear lower control arm on both sides.
21. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the caliper on both sides.
1 Pull back the parking brake lever.
2 Disconnect the cable from the parking brake lever.
3 Remove the cable conduit retaining clip.
4 Disconnect the cable.
All vehicles
22. Remove the parking brake cables.
23. NOTE: The LH cable can be identified by a white sleeve and the RH cable by a black sleeve.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
^ Adjust the parking brake.
