Removal and Installation

All vehicles

NOTICE: This brake drum removal procedure is for access to brake system components, not for installing a new brake drum.

NOTE: To install a new brake drum, remove the wheel hub. Service and Repair

1. Release the parking brake system.
2. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.

Vehicles with anti-lock brakes
3. Remove the rear wheel speed sensor bolt and position the sensor aside.
^ To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).

All vehicles
4. Remove the 4 wheel spindle bolts. Remove the brake drum and wheel spindle as an assembly.
^ To install, tighten to 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs.).

5. NOTICE: Make sure that all mating surfaces are free of foreign material.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
^ To install a new brake drum, remove the wheel hub.
