Removal and Installation
1. Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
Turn the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position and remove the ignition key.
2. CAUTION: Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate while the steering column intermediate shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring can result. If there is evidence the intermediate shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered.
Remove and discard the upper intermediate shaft-to-steering column bolt and disconnect the shaft.
^ To install, tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
3. Remove the 2 upper intermediate shaft bearing nuts.
^ To install, tighten to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft).
4. Remove and discard the lower intermediate shaft-to-steering gear bolt and remove the shaft.
^ To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
