Transmission Fluid Cooler Tubes - 6.8L
Transmission Fluid Cooler Tubes - TorqShift(R), Gasoline Engine
Removal
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Remove the radiator grille.
3. NOTE: Do not disconnect the A/C lines while moving the A/C condenser toward the front of the vehicle to remove the Oil-To-Air (OTA) transmission fluid cooler.
Remove the 2 bracket bolts and position the A/C condenser forward.
4. Disconnect the front transmission front fluid cooler tube from the radiator in-tank cooler.
5. Remove the 3 pushpins from the lower air deflector.
NOTE: The bumper is removed for clarity.
6. Remove the 3 remaining pushpins and the lower air deflector.
7. Disconnect the front transmission fluid cooler tube from the OTA (Oil-To-Air) fluid cooler.
8. Remove the front transmission fluid cooler tube secondary latches.
9. Using the Transmission Cooler Line Disconnect Tool, disconnect the transmission fluid cooler tube assemblies.
10. Detach the pin-type retainer from the frame rail and remove the front transmission fluid cooler tube assembly from the vehicle.
11. Disconnect the battery.
12. Remove the transmission fluid cooler tube assembly bracket nut and position the transmission fluid cooler tube assembly and bracket aside.
13. Remove the starter motor terminal cover.
14. Remove the starter solenoid cable eyelet nuts and ground cable studbolt and position the cables aside.
15. Position the starter motor wiring harness bracket aside.
16. Disconnect the solenoid body electrical connector.
17. NOTE: The transmission fluid cooler tube assembly is removed from the rear of the vehicle.
Disconnect the rear transmission fluid cooler tubes from the transmission case and remove the transmission fluid cooler tubes from the vehicle.
Installation
1. Install the rear transmission fluid cooler tubes in the vehicle and connect the transmission fluid cooler tubes to the transmission case.
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
2. Connect the solenoid body electrical connector.
- Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
3. Position the starter motor wiring harness bracket on the stud.
4. Position the cables and install the starter solenoid terminal eyelet nuts and ground cable stud bolt.
- Tighten the ground cable stud bolt to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Tighten the starter battery terminal nut to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
- Tighten the starter solenoid terminal nut to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
5. Install the starter motor terminal cover.
6. Position the transmission fluid cooler tube assembly bracket on the stud and install the nut.
- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
7. Connect the battery.
8. Install the front transmission fluid cooler tube assembly in the vehicle and attach the pin-type retainer to the frame rail.
9. Connect the transmission fluid cooler tube assembly.
10. Install the front transmission fluid cooler tube secondary latches.
11. Connect the front transmission fluid cooler tube to the OTA (Oil-To-Air) fluid cooler.
12. Install the lower air deflector and 3 pushpins.
13. Install the remaining 3 pushpins in the lower air deflector.
14. Connect the front transmission fluid cooler tube to the radiator in-tank cooler.
15. Position back the A/C condenser and install the 2 bracket bolts.
- Tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
16. Install the radiator grille.
17. Fill with transmission fluid and check for leaks.
