Pinpoint Test F: Manual Shift-On-Stop (MSOS) Functional Test

Four Wheel Drive (4WD) Systems - Mechanical Shift

Pinpoint Test F: Manual Shift-On-Stop (MSOS) Functional Test

Normal Operation

When operating in Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) high (4H) mode, the transfer case locks the front driveline to the rear. When set to the LOCK position, the manual hublocks connect the front axle shafts to the wheel hubs. When in 4WD (Four-Wheel Drive) low (4L) mode, the transfer case low range gear set provides an additional 2.72:1 gear reduction. When operating in 2-Wheel Drive (2WD) high (2H) mode, the transfer case decouples the front driveline from the rear driveline. For improved fuel economy, both manual hublocks should be set to FREE in 2H mode.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Transfer case and related components

- Wheel and tire assemblies

- Front axle assembly

PINPOINT TEST F : MSOS (Manual Shift-On-Stop) FUNCTIONAL TEST

WARNING: When directed to drive the vehicle as part of this test, drive the vehicle on a hard surface in an area without traffic to prevent a crash. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

NOTICE: Vehicles equipped with the Manual Shift-On-Stop (MSOS) system and manual hublocks should not be operated in 4H or 4L mode with the hublocks set to the FREE position. Doing so can result in damage to driveline components.

NOTE: 4H (4X4 HIGH) and 4L (4X4 LOW) are not intended for driving on hard/dry surfaces.
