Battery Cables - Diesel
Removal and Installation
1. Disconnect the batteries. For additional information, refer to Battery Disconnect - Dual Battery Disconnect - Dual.
2. Remove the Air Cleaner (ACL) outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to Intake Air Distribution and Filtering Diagrams.
3. Disconnect the vehicle harness connectors.
4. Remove the nut(s) and position the generator B+ terminal(s) aside.
- To install, tighten to 17 Nm (150 lb-in).
5. Disconnect the generator(s) electrical connector(s).
6. NOTE: It may be necessary to position the RH splash shield aside to access the battery ground cable bolt.
Remove the battery ground cable-to-frame bolt and position the battery ground cable aside.
- To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
7. Remove the battery ground cable-to-frame bracket bolt.
- To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
8. Remove the 2 nuts from the positive battery cable-to-engine harness retainer.
9. Remove the bolt from the battery ground cable-to-engine block.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
10. Remove the starter solenoid terminal cover.
11. Remove the nut and position the starter solenoid positive cable terminal aside.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
12. Remove the nut and position the starter solenoid wire terminal aside.
- To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
13. Disconnect the 2 engine harness connectors from the oil filter adapter.
14. Remove the positive battery cable-to-engine bracket nut and remove the bracket from the stud.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
15. Remove the pressure line bracket-to-battery cable shield bolt.
- To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
16. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 nuts from the secondary battery harness retainer.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
17. Remove the secondary ground cable-to-engine terminal bolt.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
18. Release the battery cable locator pins and remove the cables.
19. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
