Removal

Power Transfer Unit (PTU)









All vehicles

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Jacking and Lifting Service and Repair.

2. Remove the intermediate shaft. For additional information, refer to Front Drive Halfshafts Intermediate Shaft.

3. Remove the driveshaft. For additional information, refer to Driveshaft Removal and Replacement.

4. Remove the 4 bolts and the crossmember brace.





Vehicles equipped with 3.0L

5. Remove the catalytic converter - 3.0L RH. For additional information, refer to Exhaust System Service and Repair.

Vehicles equipped with 2.5L and hybrid

6. Remove the 2 exhaust bracket nuts.

Hybrid vehicles

7. Remove the 2 bolts and the exhaust bracket.

8. Remove the Power Transfer Unit (PTU)-to-engine bracket.

1. Remove the 4 PTU-to-engine bracket bolts.

2. Remove the inner PTU bracket-to-PTU bolt.

3. Fully loosen the outer PTU bracket-to-PTU bolt and remove the bolt with the bracket.

Except hybrid vehicles

9. Remove the 6 PTU-to-engine bracket bolts and the bracket.

All vehicles

10. Disconnect the PTU vent tube and position it aside.

11. Remove the 4 PTU-to-transaxle bolts.

12. Remove the PTU.
