Spindle: Service and Repair

Removal

1. CAUTION: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure can result in major service expense. They must be replaced with the same part number, or an equivalent part, if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to ensure proper retention of these parts.

Remove the hub.





2. Remove the rear brake anti-lock sensor
1 Remove the bolt.
2 Remove the anti-lock brake sensor.





3. Disconnect the rear brake line.
1 Remove the bolt.
2 Disconnect and plug the brake line.





4. Disconnect the parking brake cable and conduit from the parking brake lever.





5. Disconnect the parking brake cable and conduit from the backing plate.
1 Depress the retainer clips.
2 Disconnect the parking brake cable and conduit from the backing plate.





6. Disconnect the parking brake cable and conduit from the parking brake cable bracket and pull the parking brake cable and conduit from the backing plate.





7. Remove the four rear wheel spindle-to-rear axle nuts.

8. Note: Serrations on the shank of the four wheel spindle bolts will, until driven out, retain both the brake backing plate and the wheel spindle.

Remove the rear wheel spindle, the brake backing plate and the rear brake components.





9. Using care not to damage the threads, press out the four rear wheel spindle bolts and separate the brake backing plate from the rear wheel spindle.

Installation











1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
2. Bleed the brake system.
