Fuel Rail: Service and Repair
REMOVALWARNING:
- DO NOT SMOKE OR CARRY LIGHTED TOBACCO OR OPEN FLAME OF ANY TYPE WHEN WORKING ON OR NEAR ANY FUEL-RELATED COMPONENTS. HIGHLY FLAMMABLE MIXTURES ARE ALWAYS PRESENT AND MAY BE IGNITED. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.
- FUEL IN THE FUEL SYSTEM REMAINS UNDER HIGH PRESSURE EVEN WHEN THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING.
BEFORE WORKING ON OR DISCONNECTING ANY OF THE FUEL LINES OR FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS, THE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE MUST BE RELIEVED. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.
1. Remove the upper intake manifold. For additional information, refer to Engine.
CAUTION: After disconnecting, plug the fuel lines to prevent leakage.
2. Disconnect the fuel lines. For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
3. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors.
4. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor electrical connector.
5. Remove the four supply manifold bolts.
6. Remove the supply manifold with the fuel injectors attached.
7. Remove the fuel injectors.
1 Remove the fuel injector clips.
2 Remove the fuel injectors.
8. Inspect the two O-ring seals from each fuel injector. Install new O-ring seals as needed.
INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
NOTE: Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean Super Premium SAE 5W-30 motor oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G, to aid installation.
