Hydraulic Control Assembly - Antilock Brakes: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.





3. Remove the hydraulic control unit (HCU) dust shield.
1. Remove the screw.
2. Remove the bolts.





4. Disconnect the HCU electrical connector.
- Slide the connector lock rearward.





5. Remove four brake lines Tom the HCU and two from the rear proportioning valve assembly.





6. Remove the bolt and position the rear proportioning valve assembly aside.





7. Remove the HCU bracket to frame bolts.





8. Remove the HCU assembly from the vehicle.
- Lift the bracket hooks from the frame.





9. Remove the two remaining brake lines from the HCU.





10. Remove the HCU bracket.
- Remove the two bolts.





11. Remove the anti-lock brake control module from the HCU.
- Remove the four bolts.

Installation

WARNING: The scan tool must be used to bleed the brake system including the HCU.

















1. Note: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn its strategy.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Bleed the brake system.
