Removal

1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.





2. Remove the four bolts and the skid plate.





3. Remove the four bolts and the damper.
4. If disassembly is required, remove the drain plug and drain the transfer case.
- Replace the drain plug when fluid has drained.





5. Disconnect the shift motor harness connector, and position it aside.





6. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector and position aside.





7. Index-mark the case yoke and the flange, and remove the six bolts retaining the front driveshaft to the cupped CV flange.





8. Rest the driveshaft on the No. 2 crossmember.
9. Remove the rear driveshaft.
10. Position a high lift jack under the transfer case, and strap the transfer case down.





11. Remove the five bolts retaining the transfer case to the extension housing.
12. Slide the transfer case rearward and off of the transmission output shaft.





13. Remove the front extension housing gasket, and clean the mating surfaces.
14. Mount the transfer case in a bench holding fixture.
